Our February Chapter Edition took place on Saturday, February 28th.
It felt official, it felt like old friends getting together, it felt like a party that I look forward to every time. There wasn’t any lack of business to attend to, that’s for sure, at the February Edition of Anger In Chicago. We have been together for eight months. We all anticipated from the start that our local chapter of the Metallica Club would grow to be something special. The founding five of us realized that we were, at that time, the only chapter in the city of Chicago. We thought that Metallica fans from all over Chicagoland would see us and chapters would begin to spring up just like we did in June of 2003. We expected some growth of our own but as it turns out, 8 months later we continue to grow as the only local chapter in the city. Fifteen total AIC members now! We have tripled our membership! I want to thank you from deep within for taking a chance on our little chapter and growing it. Thank you David, Andy, Mike, Lane, Gabriella, Janet, Alan, Marg, Brad, Joe J., Joe S, Chris, Scott and Gary.
Four new members on that Saturday in February. Four really cool guys that we had been courting, if you want to call it that, for a few weeks. Four dudes that went out of their way to stop by to check us out and learn just how cool this community actually is. All we want is to cultivate a culture of hard core Metallica fans in Chicagoland and give them a place to come together about a band that we all identify with. We had great success. The absolute best compliment we received was from one of the newbies. “Thanks, for making me feel very welcome here my first time.” That’s the best. That is how we want people to fell when they come to HQ for these meetings/parties/get-togethers.
Some highlights were: We not only partied much at HQ. We took care of business too. We all had a say in refining our designs for the upcoming 2004 local chapter shirts. Many came prepared with designs ready for tweaking. There was a plan initiated for the next chapter outing. 25 lucky people will be attending the first showing in Chicago of the movie, “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” on Friday April 2nd. 9:00 PM at the Gateway Theater. Many of us are going to a show in Madison, WI on Sunday, May 2nd on the first leg of the “Madly In Anger With The World” tour. Many more will be attending the one or more dates in August on the third leg of the tour in Rosemont. Some of us are even venturing to downstate Illinois, Moline and Peoria, for shows, back into Wisconsin and up to Michigan. A lucky few of us will be seeing the boys this month in San Francisco and Seattle and later this summer in Germany. AIC folks are world travelers for ‘Tallica. Joe J. went to Ireland last year and Mike is heading to Germany this year.
Anger In Chicago continues to be more than just some online local chapter. We are an active and growing family of friends. See you all on April 2nd.
