Our June Edition took place on Saturday, June 12th, 2004.
Fabulous. I really like it when people are confident in something so much that they can help support it. We of Anger In Chicago try to get together every month or so just to be together and enjoy one another’s company. The regular gatherings of AIC are supported by members, close friends of members, and people that are interested in becoming a member of Chicago’s only local chapter of The Metallica Club. We had the pleasure of enjoying the company of 10 of the 14 existing members, inducted 5 new members, Joe, Jeff, Phil, Rob and Christina, and met Kyle for the first time Saturday, June 11th 2004.
Our June 2004 Edition of Anger In Chicago marked the first anniversary of our local chapter as an official portion of The Metallica Club. We are local chapter #258, since the beginning of June 2003 when five of us from all over the Chicagoland area decided to form a local and do what was necessary to grow it. What we have grown is a small Metallica culture and community of friends that have continued to get together regularly, add people to the chapter and grow. We are 19 members now and see more growth likely in the beginning of summer.
It was not only an Anger In Chicago first birthday but our # 7 Metallica member Janet’s friend and sometimes AIC companion Dina’s birthday. We all enjoyed cake courtesy of them. It was also the first time we grilled out and thanks to the support of several people we were able to not ever be short of grilled goodies and picnic foods. We all supported the cause with hot dogs, brats, sausages, salads, deserts and much beer. Gabriella, or # 6 as we used to call her, was grilling her ass off for about three hours so we could all load- up and have our stomachs coated for the later portion of the evening’s festivities.
Our meetings, parties or get-togethers, whatever we call them, always end up becoming very friendly and people end up feeling genuinely closer to one another for one reason or another. Maybe it’s the fact that we get together for the express purpose of enjoying the music, videos and stories of the best band in the world. Maybe it’s because we all tend to be interested in the same kind of music that is what Metallica brings us. The harder, heavier and glammier side of music. (Wait, glammier??? Let’s stick with harder and heavier.)
But nah, I think it is because it’s a Saturday, most people don’t have to work the next day, we have planned to come let off some steam for more than a few hours and drink some Jagermeister! We went through four bottles of Jager and we probably could have used one or two more. Jager, which was once a staple in Metallica’s menu, is now a fundamental part of AIC. Thanks for supporting our ever growing circle of Metallica friends by bringing bottles of Jager to our parties. (And we can’t forget the Red Bull, either!) Thank you all for bringing Jager and beer and Italian sausage, cookies, salads, cash or new friends for us to enjoy our blessed time with. We will not easily forget our new friend Kristen thanks to Chris. We hope you liked our June Edition and will try to return.
As for the early part of the summer coming up, AIC hopes to arrange for many of us, old and new, a screening of Metallica Some Kind of Monster. Watch for details in July. We will have a special advance preview copy of the “So What” book that comes out this Summer for you all to check out in advance of purchasing the real thing. We also hope to arrange a July edition of Metallica friends to get together. Watch your email and this site for news on that one also. We hope to be able to see everyone in July with more Jager, more beer and more great tales of Metallica.
